In some cases, if cluster seizures are observed, your neurologist may recommend temporarily increasing the dose or frequency of your pet’s regular seizure medications. This is most commonly done with phenobarbital or levetiracetam. Adjustments may involve giving a higher dose than usual or giving the same dose more frequently. These changes are typically short-term, lasting only 2–3 days.
Your neurologist will let you know if this approach is appropriate for your pet. Do not change medication doses on your own, as this can lead to serious complications.
Side Effects
- Temporary sedation: This is the most common side effect and usually resolves once the short-term adjustment is complete.
