Meet Dr. Otamendi, a Venezuelan adventurer who swapped the beaches of his homeland for the vibrant streets of New Orleans when he was just 9 years old. Growing up in the Big Easy, he spent his early days working in emergency and specialty vet hospitals — basically saving animals after hours and coolly handling chaos.
His veterinary journey took him from the lively streets of New Orleans to the academic halls of Louisiana State University, where he earned his veterinary degree. He then sharpened his skills with a year at North Carolina State University and a prestigious three-year Neurology and Neurosurgery residency at Texas A&M University
After his training, Dr. Otamendi worked in top-notch hospitals across California and Louisiana, in both private practice and academia. Now, he’s back in the Bay Area, ready to provide cuttin’-edge neurological care for our furry friends.
But there’s more to him than just veterinary expertise. When he’s not busy with neurons and nerves, you’ll find him at the gym lifting heavy objects, exploring California’s stunning nature, or lost in the magic of the symphony hall, playing bassoon and trombone — yes, he’s a classically trained musician! He’s been part of community ensembles like the San Francisco Freedom Band and the Civic Orchestra of Baton Rouge.
In short, Dr. Otamendi is a brilliant blend of a skilled veterinarian, a musical maestro, and an adventure seeker — all rolled into one!
Dr Otamendi is available for consultations Fridays and Saturdays.
